When it comes to ski racing, events don’t get much older than the Enquist Slalom, which celebrated its 76 th year at Mount Seymour this past weekend. The event is geared to K2 athletes (age 13-14), with clubs participating from across the Lower Mainland.

The soft snow created a few issues at this year’s race, with only 12 out of 36 girls finishing two runs of the slalom course on Saturday. For the boys, a slightly better 23 out of 46 starters made it to the finish.

Things went much better in Sunday’s slalom, with one simple team goal — to stay up.

All told the WMSC team earned 12 out of 18 medals over the weekend.

In Saturday’s slalom, the WMSC’s Jocelyn Ramsden picked up the gold medal in 1:30.88, 0.66 seconds ahead of teammate Taylor Green. Eylse Timoshenko, Eve Zessel and Laura Gardiner also finished, placing sixth, seventh and ninth respectively.

The boys also picked up two medals, with Michael Cadman in first place by more than three seconds, and Matthew Sawchyn picking up the bronze. Other WMSC skiers in the top-15 were Isaac Penn, Daniel Kwong, Josh Robertson, Spencer Morrison, and Willy Konantz in fourth through eighth places and Glenn Goldsmid in 13 th .

On the second day, Whistler’s Madison McLeish — a DNF on day one — blew away the competition by almost eight full seconds to take the gold. Jocelyn Ramsden picked up the bronze, and Taylor Green, Bria Darlington, Jenny Rea, MacKenzie Patterson, Marielle Thompson, and Jenna Newton were fourth through ninth. Lauren Cameron also cracked the top-15, finishing 12 th .

It was a podium sweep for the men on day two, with Isaac Penn in first place, Michael Cadman second and Spencer Morris third. Others in the top-10 were Willy Konantz fifth, Matthew Sawchyn sixth, Max Horner 11 th , Aiden Lee 12 th , Daniel Kwong 13 th and Josh Robertson 15 th .

Followed the second day of races the overall male winners were presented with the Harold Enquist Memorial Trophy, dating back to 1953, while the female skiers were presented with the Enquist President’s Trophy dating back to 1936. Jocelyn Ramsden placed second behind Mt. Washington’s Kelsi Francisty, while Taylor Green was third. For the boys, Michael Cadman was first overall with two podium appearances, and Penn was third.
