Soggy kings crowned at King of the Rail

44 skiers, riders turn out

By Andrew Mitchell

In some of the soggiest conditions this season, a field of 44 riders and skiers still turned out for this past Saturday’s King of the Rail competition, the last of the season.

When the athletes’ votes were tallied, Vincent Martin won for top Ski Male 16 and Over, Ronald Trembley was the top Snowboard Male 16 and Over, Taylor Wilson was the top Ski Youth 15 and Under and Chase Hartley was the top Snowboard Youth 15 and Under.

On the female side, Sayaka Nayao was the top Snowboard Female 16 and Over.

The biggest winner was Max Huntley, who won the draw prize for the Sapient snowboard.

For skiers and boarders who still want to compete, there are still a few Whistler-Blackcomb Park Rider events on the calendar, including this Sunday’s slopestyle on Whistler Mountain.

Advance registration is available at any Whistler-Blackcomb Guest Relations location for $20, and day of race registration is open until 9:45 a.m. in the Roundhouse for $25. Slopestyle events are popular, and athletes are asked to sign up earlier to guarantee a spot.

Following the slopestyle, three park events remain; an April 18 halfpipe, and rail jams on May 6 and 13, all on Blackcomb.
