Hairfarmers lose beards, but not music

Losing manes, beards for good cause

The Hairfarmers will be a little less hairy this weekend.

The locks and beards of Grateful Greg and Guitar Doug are the talismans of their music.

Those flower-power mops rival any hair-elastic-toting woman’s and their mouth-losing beards put Santa Claus to shame.

Free flowing, cookie-cutter breaking and generous, hair and music are one in the same.

But the two dedicate a part of themselves to a great cause, shaving off their beards and providing some great live music at the fifth annual Balding for Dollars fundraising event on Sunday, April 1 at 3:30 p.m. at the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC).

I always wanted to ski naked and this is the closest I’ll get without  getting  my pass  taken away ,” said Guitar Doug.

The two musicians along with more than a dozen other community members will dedicate themselves to the worthy cause. Participants will raise funds through pledge sheets then have their heads shaved at the public event with help from Amanda Stocks of Blackcomb Barber Shop.

Balding for Dollars is a province-wide fundraiser that supports children with cancer at the B.C. Children’s Hospital. The Whistler fundraiser also supports the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada.

The Hairfarmers, recently voted Whistler’s Best Musicians, will keep the party lively with great music. There will also be opportunities to win great prizes, including certificates from the Four Seasons Resort, Outdoor Adventures Whistler, Trout Country Fishing Guides, Vancouver Canucks tickets and more.

To donate a prize or to sign up for the cause, contact Dave or Wendy at 604-905-2533 or info@whistlerfriends.ca . Pledge sheets are available at baldingfordollars.com.
