The Whistler Adaptive Sport Program is hosting a new recreational ski race for adaptive skiers Saturday, April 21, the Rotary Recreational Giant Slalom.
Earlier this year WASP announced plans to offer regular coaching to adaptive athletes who were not yet at the provincial level, essentially providing a club level program for skiers with a wide range of disabilities. Participants in that program will take part in the giant slalom, which will provide them with an opportunity to race with members of the national team, including Brad Lennea, Matt Hallatt and Lauren Woolstencroft, as well as Shona Burton from the development team, and skiers from the provincial team. Race entries are coming in from across Canada.
The giant slalom will take place on the Jolly Green Giant and Ego Bowl runs, using the old Pontiac Race Centre under the Emerald Chair. The first runs will take place at 11 a.m. after the course inspection, and the awards will take place at the Whistler Mountain Ski Club cabin at 4 p.m.
