Spring cleaning for Whistler

Time to clean up roadways

This Saturday, April 28, Whistler is holding its annual Pitch In Day, inviting community groups and members of the community to donate a morning to clean up garbage and recyclables along Whistler’s roadways.

This is the 18 th annual Pitch In Day, which is now a national event. It will be followed by a barbecue provided by Whistler Fire Services using food donated by local grocers.

The municipality will be providing groups with garbage bags, recycling bags, gloves and other tools. If you’re not aligned with a volunteer group, you can join volunteers from AWARE and the RMOW. Contact Tim Brooksbank, Roads Supervisor for the municipality at 604-935-8334 to volunteer your time.

River of Golden Dreams Tours is also holding its annual cleanup of Alta Lake and the River of Golden Dreams, offering free canoes all day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., for people helping to clean up both waterways. The last pickup at the canoe pull-out is at 5 p.m. Life jackets, paddles and garbage bags are provided, but participants are asked to bring gloves and shoes they can get wet. Call River of Golden Dreams Tours at 604-935-BOAT (2628) to arrange a canoe.

The RMOW is also holding a free drop-off for residents this Saturday at the Whistler Solid Waste Transfer Station, based at the old landfill site opposite Function Junction.
