Sara Jennings is the new president of the Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE).

Jennings, who was born and raised in Whistler, has been part of the organization for almost four years.

“I’m excited to see how I can move AWARE forward,” she said this week.

Her father was one of the original directors of the organization when it was formed almost 20 years ago.

One of her biggest goals, she said, is to educate and engage both AWARE’s members and the community at large.

“If I engage one person then that’s a good thing,” she said.

Jennings replaces Brad Kasselman, president of AWARE the past two years.

The 2007 executive is rounded off with Carson as vice president, Marie Fortin as secretary and Bryce Leigh as treasurer.

WHA gets new board member

The Whistler Housing Authority (WHA) has welcomed a new member to its board.

Local developer Michael Hutchison was selected in March to join the board of the organization. He replaces long time board member Steve Bayly, who resigned earlier this year.

WHA general manager Marla Zucht explained the board had been looking for someone with development experience to join the team because the next three years is expected to be heavy with development of employee housing, specifically the athletes’ village, Rainbow and the Cressey development.

Hutchison lives in Whistler and has ongoing projects in Squamish and the Sunshine Coast.
