Just months after starting to accept electronic waste at the waste transfer station in Function Junction, Squamish-based Chief’s Metals Agency (CMA) is no longer accepting it.
People are asked not to bring their electronic waste to the transfer station or leave it outside the Re-Use-It Centre.
Pique Newsmagazine placed several calls and an e-mail to CMA to determine why e-waste collection was halted but at press time had not heard a reply. However, a waste coordinator for the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District attributed said the e-waste bins were pulled in Pemberton as well, with the company citing a lack of support.
The service was offered by CMA free of charge, and the company planned to finance its services by reselling e-waste components to processors in the Lower Mainland. However, company owner Guenter Frankenberg was also negotiating with municipalities to receive a fee based on the tonnage of waste removed.
