Decks, Krafty Kuts coming to Tommy’s

German, English DJs continue series of Summer Kick-off shows

Tommy Africa’s continues its Summer Kick-off shows with Germany’s Erick Decks spinning tonight (June 28) and England’s Krafty Kuts returning July 8.

DJ/producer/remixer Decks comes from Frankfurt’s Wild Obsession. He plays dirty, funky house and electro alongside JT and Mike Grefner in true Party Beats style. Tickets are $6 at the door; doors open at 9:30 p.m.

Next week, DJ/producer Martin Reeves, a.k.a. Krafty Kuts, returns to Tommy’s with breaks, eclectro and drum ’n’ bass.

Krafty, who is based in Brighton, is a regular at Ibiza and has several club residencies in England. He picked up three awards at Breakspoll 2007 in London, including “Best DJ” for the third year running.

He also claimed an award for “Outstanding Contribution to Breaks”, but it was the “Best Album” award for his first solo record, Freakshow , that thrilled him most.

Krafty was at Tommy’s last summer, where he unveiled Freakshow . He called the album “…basically an accumulation of years of working the studio, fine tuning my sound where you are making your music to a level where people think it’s really good.”

After a decade of working in the business, Freakshow was immediately off the charts in Australia and North America.

“This album is perfect for Canada in particular,” he said last year. “Anytime I’ve played in North America people are like, ‘Hey dude, I thought you were black.’ They really like the funky side of the things I do and the way I entertain and always give 110 per cent. I like to feel a part of the crowd.

“It’s all about people, at the end of the day. It’s about entertaining them and making people happy, and if I can do that, then I am happy.”

Sunday, July 8 Krafty Kuts will be unveiling his new CD, Fabric Live .34 .

Tickets are $17 in advance from The Mix, Tommy’s and The Hub in Creekside.
