Clowning around with art

Circus-Billy Freakout and Art Extravaganza brings in sideshow of talent

Artist Dave Petko loved going to the carnival as a kid: the rides, flashing lights, blaring music and shady atmosphere.

His thrill of the twisted and colourful inspired the Circus-Billy Freakout and Art Extravaganza Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14 at Mike’s Garage.

“I am friends with a lot of artists and I thought it would be neat to have a big, extravagant art show with live music, booze and food,” said Petko of The Blind Mute Productions’ show.

More than 30 artists from the Sea to Sky corridor and Lower Mainland will showcase everything from paintings to mixed media and computer illustrations at the two-day event. Works will all be based on a circus and carnival theme.

Bands including Slush and Sketchy Clown and His Imaginary Friends will join the festivities. There will also be a barbecue and bar.

Friday’s show runs from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. and Saturday’s show from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is $10.
