Ticket for One. LUNAFliks screens Rhinoceros Eyes in the great outdoors of Lost Lake this Thursday. Hot films cool down with the setting sun, so don't forget to bring something warm to wrap up in.

What: LUNAFLiks

When: Thursdays, 9 p.m.

Where: Lost Lake Park

Admission: $5/$3

Whistler’s favourite Thursday night tradition is back. Just follow the tea-light glowing paper bags down the walkway to the inflatable jumbo screen that features stars both on and off the screen under night skies at Lost Lake Park.

LUNAFliks hosts summer screenings every Thursday night, giving the 19-plus crowd something to do other than the usual booze buzzin’ club nights around Whistler.

Everyone packs in picnics, snacks, blankets, lawn chairs and, most importantly, lots of friends to tuck in for off-the-beaten-track flicks such as last week’s A Scanner Darkly.

This week’s film is Rhinoceros Eyes, a tale of a prop-house employee who lives in his own make-believe dimension. The quirky story follows Reclusive Chep played by Michael Pitt, who is content to live his life at a prop-house and watch the same Hollywood romantic melodrama in an old movie theatre night after night. That is until fate brings Fran (Paige Turco) into his life. The art director, obsessed with detail, needs to find a pair of genuine rhinoceros eyes for a film she is shooting. Her requests become even more bizarre, resulting in Chep engaging in reckless acts to satisfy her ceaseless requests.

His crimes prompt an investigation by Phil Barbara (Queer as Folk’s Gale Harold) who journeys into Chep’s surreal world.

“Rapturously Deranged… The delightful animations and twisted humour recall Tim Burton’s early works,” praised an Eye Weekly critique.

Each screening is always prologued with Australia’s DJ FSU on decks at 9 p.m., with the film screening at dusk (around 10 p.m.).

Things cool down with the setting sun, so bring something to sit on and warm layers. The WAVE Lost Lake bus leaves from the bus loop starting at 9 p.m. for $.50.

Admission is $3 for LUNA members (youth ages 18 to 29) and $5 for non-members.
