The Whistler Ultimate Disk Society is once again hosting a tournament in Whistler, on July 28-29, inviting all comers to take part. Eight teams are confirmed so far, with one squad travelling from Saskatchewan to play.
Unfortunately Whistler will not be fielding a competitive team this year, which is the first time the community has been unable to field a rep team in the history of the tournament. There were not enough players available that weekend to form a team.
Also, there is no official Whistler Ultimate league for 2007, although players have drop-in every Monday night on the lower fields at Myrtle Philip.
Pool play gets underway at 8:30 a.m. at Myrtle Philip, and the playoffs are on Sunday starting at 10 a.m. The finals take place at 3 p.m.
Hash Run on Tuesday
The third Hash Harrier run of the season will take place on Tuesday, July 24, meeting at Escape Route at 5:30 p.m. The course is secret as always, but the challenge is the same — running as a pack, following clues along the trail and locating the hare to finish the race. All abilities are able to run together, with the fastest runners following false trails and calling out when they find the right path.
The event will be organized by Whistler Running Experience and is sponsored by the Escape Route and the Cinnamon Bear Bar and Grille in the Hilton Whistler Resort.
The cost is $5 to take part, which includes refreshments and a chance to win draw prizes. The big prize this week is a heart rate monitor by High Gear.
Crankworx still seeking volunteers
If you have some free time next week and would like to be involved in the Crankworx festival, positions are still available on the volunteer crew.
Volunteer positions available include the Sport Crew, which helps to set up, maintain and take down competition venues; Stage Crew, which helps to set up and tear down the stage, and assist bands and technical crews; Competitor Relations; Media/VIP Accreditation; Expo Crew, which works with vendors and sponsors at the expo site; and Logistics Assistant to help organize volunteers and shifts.
More than 900 volunteer shifts need to be filled over the nine-day festival. All volunteers who can contribute a minimum of two six-hour shifts will receive a T-shirt, be entered in daily draws for industry swag, and get tickets to attend the volunteer appreciation party.
