Whistler residents are warned to be on the lookout for counterfeit currency, after a local business discovered four fake $100 U.S. bills.
Over the past month, the RCMP has received numerous reports of doctored notes — including Canadian currency — being circulated through local businesses.
Residents and business are being asked to watch for suspicious looking bills, and to familiarize themselves with traits of counterfeit money.
If anyone comes into contact with someone they suspect is using fake cash, they are asked to note a description of the individual and contact the RCMP immediately.
Missing hikers safe
RCMP successfully tracked down a group of hikers after they were reported missing Monday afternoon.
In a release issued Tuesday, RCMP said six experienced hikers left Lytton on July 13 to hike the Stein Valley Trail, and were scheduled to arrive along the In-SHUCK-ch Forest Road at Lizzey Creek by July 22.
But by July 23, the group still hadn’t arrived, and Pemberton RCMP were notified.
RCMP and Search and Rescue quickly dispatched a search party and located the group within hours. The hikers encountered heavy snow halfway through their trek and were forced to turn back.
A helicopter crew was able to land and confirm the hikers were in good health. They were expected to arrive back in Lytton on Tuesday.
The RCMP remind people to ensure they are properly equipped when participating in lengthy outdoor activities, and ask they notify someone of their departure, arrival and route plans. They also suggest carrying tracking equipment to allow for quicker response time in an emergency situation.
Rowdy weekend
The Sea to Sky Regional Police had a busy weekend in the Whistler and Pemberton area, answering 93 calls for service.
In a release sent out Monday, the RCMP reported responding to three disturbance calls, 14 noise complaints, and 10 counts of public intoxication. Two impaired driving calls, five collisions and three driving complaints were also reported, with five calls for mischief, three break and enters and six thefts topping off the weekend.
The RCMP also cautions residents and visitors that noise bylaws will be enforced, and carry hefty fines.
B&E suspect busted
A man suspected of committing a number of break and enters in the Whistler area has been apprehended.
On July 8, Whistler RCMP arrested Stephen Blackwater on an outstanding warrant. Blackwater, who is known to police, had various items that RCMP suspected were stolen and tools used for break and entry in his possession at the time of his arrest.
Blackwater appeared in North Vancouver court on July 24 th .
