After one door closes in Whistler for London Drugs, another door may be opening Squamish.

“We are looking very strongly at Squamish,” Wynne Powell, president of London Drugs, confirmed this week.

He could not provide any details about the deal.

In February Whistler council turned down a rezoning application from Larco Investments, which would have paved the way for a two-storey London Drugs store in the heart of the village.

Though council’s decision was unanimous, the issue of bringing a London Drugs store to the village polarized the community.

“We’ve had so many inquiries from the Whistler folks who are extremely disappointed that our application for Whistler was turned down,” said Powell. “Obviously we’re looking at ways to try to service some of the population at least. This (going to Squamish) is an opportunity we’re examining at the moment.”
