Just pink over tacos

A perfectly pink 25th birthday for Sharai Rewels with tacos, girl friends, shopping and chocolate

What: Pink Taco Party

When: Monday, Sept. 10, 8 p.m.

Where: Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC)

Tickets: $10

The Pink Taco Party came from three inspirations:

One, best friend Lindsey Shedden cheered up Sharai Rewels with the best taco dinner she ever had, after boyfriend troubles.

Two, Rewels wanted to celebrate her birthday with all of her best gal pals, but couldn’t fit 200 women in one house.

Three, well the name says it all, with a naughty and nice playful mix of female staples: great food, friends, shopping and chocolate, all wrapped up in a pink bow.

The fourth annual event carries on the pink tradition this Monday, Sept. 10 at the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC). And it’s women only, or at least until the clock strikes midnight — then men are allowed to come looking for glass slippers.

“They say there is this kind of euphoria when a whole bunch of women get together,” said Rewels who celebrates her Sept. 29 birthday a little early this year. “The level of energy that happens is almost like a drug. We always have such a great time.”

Guests must wear at least one pink item to the local event.

“Some people have taken that above and beyond,” Rewels said. “We had 20 girls come in last year with all different names like tasty taco, top taco, etc. It was hysterical.”

“Girls just want to have fun” as the song goes, with all-you-can-eat tacos served until 11 p.m., shopping stalls to browse and plenty of music to dance to.

Six DJs will switch off on four turntables, including DJs Heather Nastel, Andrea, Foxy Moron, Lenny, and Mister Fister vs. Trevor Tactics.

Hey, I thought no boys were allowed.

According to Rewels, a few boys will be in attendance; she calls them her Keeper Happy Boys. Local legends such as Feet Banks and Scott Musgrave will don the title for the evening, holding purses while girls dance and lighting a cigarette when needed.

“There will be 10 of them in suits to keep the girls happy,” Rewels said.

Prizes from Beach or Bust, Farfalla, Vanity, Kate Power Designs, Love Nest, Comor, Evolution, Lush and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory will be given away all night.

Masseuses will also be on hand offering massages, with proceeds benefiting the Canadian Breast Cancer Association.

Tickets are $10.
