This Sunday, Sept. 23, the Escape Route is hosting the annual Rubble Creek Classic trail run, which starts at Cheakamus Lake parking area and finishes at the Rubble Creek parking area via one of the most scenic hiking trails in the world.

The climb is tough, with participants gaining about 900 metres of elevation up to the Cinder Flats behind Black Tusk. The trail winds down through alpine meadows along the long Rubble Creek descent. In total, runners will lose around 1,300 metres of elevation on their way to the finish line.

The total distance is 26 km, and participants must be self-supported the entire way.

At press time 79 spots were already taken, and the race organizers have limited the run to just 85 entries this year. You had to register online at www.rubblecreekclassic.com by the end of day on Wednesday to take part, and there is no day-of-event registration even if there are spots still available.

All participants will be eligible to win draw prizes, but the organizers are also offering two free entries in next year’s Rubble Creek race to the male and female with the lowest combined time in the trail run and the Cheakamus Challenge Fall Classic mountain bike race on Saturday.

Organizers are still looking for a few volunteers to help out. If you can help, e-mail andre@escaperoute.ca.
