One of the most spectacular views of Mount Currie and the Green River is from the back of Signal Hill, the high point on the Lumpy’s Epic Trail out of One Mile Lake.

The view is also the highlight of the 11 th annual Lumpy’s Epic trail run, Oct. 13, which follows a 10 km course from One Mile Lake Park and back again.

While the course has a few challenging sections, it’s also one of the shortest trail runs in the corridor. The race is also open to everyone — walkers, runners and joggers — and the emphasis is on participation.

“We want all levels and abilities to come out and enjoy the trail,” said Arlene Schieven, who is helping to organize this year’s race.

The course is in good shape, but if the rain continues runners should be prepared to get their feet wet.

The route follows the Lumpy’s Epic Trail out of One Mile Lake Park. It starts with a winding climb up to the ridge, then follows the ridge for several kilometres on an up and down mix of trails with views of the Green River and Mount Currie. Runners should be wary of loose rocks on the descent, which flows onto a long, flat sandy trail that winds back to One Mile Lake. There is another a short climb up near the hydro lines, and a sprint back along the first section of the trail to the finish.

Registration opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, and the race gets underway at 10 a.m. The cost is $15 to take part, and proceeds will go towards Pemberton community organizations.

The race is once again a potluck, and runners are asked to contribute what they can to the post-race social.

Lumpy’s Epic is also the last event in the Sea to Sky Trail Running Series. For more information on the series, visit www.s2srun.com.
