After the overwhelming success of Pemberton’s June townhall
meeting, council has decided to hold another sometime in November.
Lori Pilon, administrator for the Village of Pemberton, put
forth a report at last week’s Committee of the Whole meeting outlining plans
for the next townhall meeting.
The purpose of the townhall meeting is twofold: to update
residents on the progress of initiatives from the 2007 Strategic Plan, and to
collect input for planning for the upcoming year.
At the meeting, council members will update the public on
issues like local drug and alcohol treatment services, a senior-friendly
community plan, the PNID water agreement, a fire agreement for Area C, a
strategic plan for the airport, possible boundary expansion, and run of river
projects.
A video slideshow will play throughout the meeting,
highlighting key projects from 2007, like the community centre, the children’s
centre, and the arts council’s public art display at the roundabout.
To “encourage resident involvement”, the evening will close
with a question and answer period, featuring questions gathered before the
meeting, which will be printed on poster boards with answers.
While a venue has not yet been selected, council is considering
the Pony Espresso and Big Sky Golf Club.
The total cost of the meeting is estimated at $1,500, which will cover the cost of the venue, audiovisual equipment, child minding and printing costs.
