Whistler helps: Whistler has raised roughly $60,000 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation in the wake of his sold-out presentation at Whistler Secondary School. The bulk of the money was raised at a breakfast hosted by local philanthropist Andy Szocs, the morning after Lewis’s presentation. “The purpose was to get more exposure and understanding of what’s going on in Africa,” said Szocs of why he hosted the breakfast. Chef Grant Cousar of Whistler Cooks donated the food for the event. Funds were also raised through ticket sales, donations and from the school kids in the district. In addition, two corridor grandmothers, Beth Harlow and Elsie Anderson, have taken a presentation to the Howe Sound District schools to educate kids on HIV/AIDS in Africa and the work Stephen Lewis is doing to help people there.
