Gain favour with Ullr

With 80 to 100 centimetres of new snow over 48 hours earlier this week, there has never been a better time to honour Ullr, the god of ski and snow, for a plentiful powder season.

“This is a really exciting time of year,” says Kate Mason, Whistler-Blackcomb events coordinator. “Paying homage to Ullr is a long standing tradition at Whistler-Blackcomb and with an annual average of 33.5 feet of snow I’d say the ritual pays off! This year we’re in Skier’s Plaza and we’re hoping the community will join in, in this great tradition.”

Powder hounds will celebrate at the community-wide event on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. in Skier’s Plaza.

Whistler-Blackcomb is scheduled to open for the winter season on Nov. 22, but there is a chance the lifts will start running this weekend.

In addition to snow dancing, festivities will also include a pyrotechnic show, rail jam, fire dancers and live music from Gnar Boots. Matchstick Productions’ movie, Seven Sunny Days will also screen and, burgers and hot chocolate served to the first 500 people.

Donations to the Whistler Food Bank will be accepted.
