Skicross team to be announced next week

Weekend selection camp to determine final four team members

The full roster for Canada’s first ever national skicross team will be announced Nov. 29, following a final selection camp at Powder King resort this weekend.

Coach Eric Archer said there are two positions still open on the women’s team and two on the men’s team that will begin the season Dec. 15 in Telluride, Colo. The Canadian team will consist of six men and four women this winter.

“We lost Aleisha Cline, to pregnancy, so that opened up a spot for Ashleigh (McIvor),” Archer said last week.

Whistler’s McIvor was officially named to the team last week. She joins Anik Demers Wild, who was named to the team earlier.

Four men have been selected for the Canadian team: Stan Hayer, Whistler’s Davey Barr, Brian Bennett and Chris Del Bosco.

The Telluride event is part of the JEEP Cross Tour this winter, following the merger of the Honda and JEEP tours. The JEEP Cross Tour includes men’s and women’s skicross and snowboard cross events. Two other stops on the JEEP tour will be at Squaw Valley and Sun Valley.

A World Cup skicross circuit includes eight events in Europe, and one in Utah, and will begin in January. The Canadian team will also be competing in the X Games in Aspen Jan. 23-27.
