Canadians solid in Nor Am opener

Members of the provincial and development ski teams headed to Keystone, Colorado for the opening of the Nor Am Cup season this week, wedged between the World Cup races at Panorama and Lake Louise.

Never ones to miss a chance to race, visiting national teams flocked to the event between the weekend World Cups to get in some training and earn FIS points.

In the opening giant slalom on Monday, Kalle Palander of Finland took the top spot, almost a second ahead of Canada’s Julien Cousineau. Kjetil Jansrud of Norway was third.

Also in the top-10 for Canada, Scott Barrett was fifth, while Jean-Philippe Roy placed 10 th .

On the second day, another GS, Erik Schlopy of the U.S. placed first, followed by Cyprien Richard and Thomas Frey of France.

None of the Canadians cracked the top-10, with Scott Barrett coming closest in 16 th . JP Roy was 20 th .

Cousineau qualified in the top-30 after his first run, but did not finish the second run of the day.

The races continued on Wednesday and will run through the week.
