New eyes on Highway 99

Four new web cameras have been placed along the Sea to Sky Highway in time for the winter driving season.

“The Sea to Sky Highway winds through very mountainous terrain where weather may change quickly, particularly at this time of year,” said Joan McIntyre, MLA for West Vancouver-Garibaldi. “We now have four new webcams to improve safety on the roads by letting motorists check road and weather conditions in advance of leaving their homes.”

The new webcams all look north and are located at:

• Highway 99 at Alta Lake Road in Whistler;

• north of Brackendale;

• Squamish South, five kilometres south of Squamish;

• 1 km south of Horseshoe Bay.

There is an existing camera south of Garibaldi which has been temporarily removed for an upgrade and will be operational again in the new year.

Motorists can view the new webcams at www.drivebc.ca and click on the Highway Cams or the interactive B.C. map.
