A 25-year-old man has been
arrested and charged with accessing and possessing child pornography.
Throughout the month of
January, Lillooet RCMP received multiple tips through Crime Stoppers that
25-year-old Jack Edward Narcisse had been viewing child pornography on his home
computer.
RCMP officers immediately
launched an investigation, and executed a search warrant on Narcisse’s home,
where they discovered child pornography downloaded from various Internet websites.
Lillooet detachment
commander, Sergeant Ross Milward, says Narcisse was involved in summer camps
and coaching within the community, but assures that although he was in a
position of trust and authority, there are no indications that he has harmed anyone
within the community.
“From our investigation to
date, he was just accessing the Internet porn sites and downloading pornography
from that,” Sgt. Milward said.
Narcisse has been released
on a promise to appear with notice on the conditions that he abstain from
communicating with children under the age of 18 or going any place where
children will be present, and that he not possess a computer or access the
Internet.
If convicted of the charges
as an indictable offence, Narcisse faces a maximum sentence of five years in
prison and a minimum sentence of 45 days. A summary conviction carries a
maximum penalty of 18 months and a minimum penalty of 14 days.
Narcisse is scheduled to
reappear in court in Lillooet on March 10. The RCMP have yet to interview
several witnesses, and are still investigating.
