Dreamcatcher Meadows, a Pemberton-based stable and training centre, recently took a team of athletes and horses to the Southlands Spring Show in Vancouver, a national level dressage event. Dressage is an equestrian art where riders put horses through a series of movements to music.
New horse Lokomotion and trainer John Dingle won the grand champion International Young Horse category, with Dreammaster — another Dreamcatcher horse — placing second.
Franciska Durfeld competed for the first time on Dreamcatcher Elite, a new horse after losing her own horse earlier this year, and had the loudest applause of the day. Christiana Durfeld won best Thoroughbred of the show on her horse Whistler’s Ready.
“Both girls have worked hard all winter, riding after school most nights and camping out here on the weekends,” said coach Jill Giese.
Lois Flawse of Whistler won three classes on her horse Isabel, who is new to dressage.
Whistler’s Lauren McLaughlin, who was in her second dressage show on Pacific Eclipse was also given honours for her performance.
