The inaugural Whistler Dragon Boat Festival was a success, bringing 21 teams and more than 450 paddlers to Rainbow Park this past weekend for two days of fun and racing.

Event organizer Jackie Webber of Water's Edge said many teams are already planning to be back next year.

"It was a really good time, and you just couldn't beat the weather," she said. "On a boat was the place to be."

The Edgewater Casino/Without Warning team won the Division A championship, while TD Lightning won the B Division and Myriad Mavericks won the C Division. Mana Whine won the women's championship title.

The organizers are hoping to host the Canadian championships in Whistler in 2010.
