The Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment has confirmed that Lindsay Coulter, the conservation policy analyst for the David Suzuki Foundation, will be in Whistler on Wednesday, July 4 for a presentation of B.C.’s biodiversity.
According to the foundation, B.C. is home to 76 per cent of Canada’s bird species, 70 per cent of its freshwater species, and 66 per cent of its butterflies, but more than 1,300 individual species are at risk. Coulter will make a case for stronger endangered species legislation.
Coulter also has a side business making green cleaning products and safe cosmetics.
The presentation is from 7 to 8 p.m., which will be followed by a discussion on local species that are at risk of disappearing. There will also be information on the second annual Bio-Blitz taking place in August, where amateurs and experts will scour Whistler while attempting to catalogue species of plants, fungus, animals, birds and insects. The information collected will assist in a biodiversity inventory currently underway in the resort.
