Gearjammer course ready for riders

Gearjammer organizer Curtis Roberts announced Tuesday that the course for the July 26 race is fully marked and ready for pre-riding.

Gearjammer organizer Curtis Roberts announced Tuesday that the course for the July 26 race is fully marked and ready for pre-riding.

The 45-kilometre course, starting at Alice Lake Park and segueing into the Squamish single-track, will be the site of a massive bike race that has a limit of 500 riders. It will end at Rose Park near downtown Squamish. Riders are expected to take between two-and-a-half and six hours to complete the race.

“We've covered the whole course, so those who are unfamiliar with the route and wish to pre-ride can follow the black Gearjammer signs from Alice Lake back to Squamish,” Roberts said.

Gearjammer 2008 welcomes riders from any age group, with a registration price pegged at $55 per racer. The fee includes $10 insurance with the Grass Roots Mountain Bike Association of B.C.

Roberts noted that the first half of stage six of last week’s B.C. Bike Race followed the Gearjammer route.

“The Squamish stage was voted best by the riders this year, but you don't have to ride the whole seven day B.C. Bike Race to ride the finest single-track in B.C.,” Roberts said.

Roberts also said that this year's Friday night registration will be at Nesters Market at Squamish Station Mall from 6:30 to 8:30. Saturday morning registration will take place at Alice Lake from 7:30 to 10 am.

The Gearjammer is being held this year on Saturday, July 26, at 11 am. For more information about registration or volunteering, visit the website www.gearjammer.ca .
