Whistler’s Brad Lennea and Sarah Tipler have been selected to carry the Paralympic torch in Beijing.

To celebrate the start of next month’s Paralympic Games in Beijing, organizers are hosting a torch relay around the city at the start of the event and inviting other nations to participate in the lead up to the opening ceremonies. The invitation was extended to the Sea to Sky corridor and 2010 organizers, who held a selection committee to pick candidates.

Whistler’s Lennea, a member of the Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team since 2002, and volunteer Tipler were chosen, and will participate in the relay on Sept. 5 and 6. They will join eight other Canadians who were selected by the City of Vancouver and the Canadian Paralympic Committee. The Beijing Organizing Committee will cover the cost of travel, meals and accommodation.

The local selection committee was comprised of members of the Whistler’s Accessibility Advisory Committee. Eleven people were nominated for two spots allocated to Sea to Sky.
