The Whistler Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations from
its membership for the 2009 Board of Directors.
Chamber members can submit nominations betweem Sept. 17 and
Oct. 31. Forms are available online at www.whistlerchamber.com and each
nomination requires three other members in good standing in order to endorse a
candidate.
Chamber bylaws were changed in 2006 to allow members to be
nominated and elected by the entire membership. Last year was the first time
that the chamber held its board election online. The Chamber of Commerce
estimates that the online process generated a 112 per cent increase in voter
registration.
This time out, members will, again, post their votes online.
Nominee profiles will be available on the chamber website and
members will receive voting instructions starting Nov. 10 and closing on Nov.
26.
There are nine two-year term positions available, as well as a
number of one-year terms. As per chamber bylaws, whenever there’s an election
to elect more than half of the total board, the nine nominees who get the
highest number of votes are elected for the two-year terms and the next in
order for the one-year terms.
Directors are allowed to serve for a maximum of eight consecutive years. The winners will be announced at the December annual general meeting.
