ISU to do vehicle screening in Whistler

Cops seek guinea pigs for vehicle screening areas

Care to have your vehicle screened for security purposes? Now's your chance.

The Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit (ISU), in charge of security operations at the Olympics, is this week conducting voluntary vehicle screening in Whistler as part of preparations for the Games.

The ISU, a unit led by the RCMP, will be testing out vehicle screening areas to ensure that its equipment can properly seek out prohibited items such as weapons during the Games. Key areas the ISU will be focusing on include weather conditions impact; infrastructure and equipment; worker timing and processing rates; and vehicle flow rates.

ISU personnel have set aside Lot 4 to conduct the screening and are asking any interested parties to voluntarily visit the site and undergo a vehicle screening. The screenings will be performed by ISU staff and monitored by security planners and analysts.

Your volunteerism, an ISU spokesman warns in a press release, is essential to "securing Canada's games," though it warns that the tested equipment may not be what's used during the Olympics themselves.
