Skiers take to Lower Franz’s for Peak to Valley warm up

It's impossible to actually train for the annual Appleton Rum Peak to Valley Race, with one of the longest giant slalom courses in the world. The course goes from The Saddle near the top of Whistler Mountain to the base at Creekside, a vertical drop of drop of over 1,440 metres, with 180 gates spaced over five kilometres.

Still, this past weekend skiers got to race a small part of the course with a warm up race on Sunday, Feb. 1 on Lower Franz's. There was a solid turnout of more than 80 racers taking part.

The official race takes place this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6-7. Some teams of four may be looking for skiers at the last minute, so if you're interested in joining a team e-mail Mari Nagai at mnagai@intrawest.com.
