The Squamish Wolf Pack were destroyed 9-1 by the Richmond Sockeyes on Saturday night, then faced off against the North Delta Devils in Whistler less than 17 hours later.

That game at Meadow Park was a lot closer, with both teams rounding out the first period with one goal on 12 shots.

The Wolf Pack got into penalty trouble early in the second period, giving up 10 unanswered shots before North Delta's second goal. Tensions came to a head with a brawl just over nine minutes in when a North Delta player hit the Wolf Pack captain behind the net, resulting in the ejection of two Wolf Pack players, Brandon Combs and Trevor Beaupre. Captain Brandon Erdman himself was ejected a few minutes later after another donnybrook, further depleting the team. All told, referees handed out 28 penalties in the second period.

By the third period the Wolf Pack bench was decimated, and the teams settled in to play some good hockey. Another fight a few minutes in cost the Wolf Pack the services of Justin Urdea, who would have come in handy.

The Wolf Pack started to even up the number of shots on goal, and put in a solid effort in the last few minutes attempting to tie the score. Whistler's Jesse Clemiss stepped up to lead the team, and played a solid game with an injured hand.

Wolf Pack goalie Brett Miller was pulled in the last minute, and the Wolf Pack squeezed off about four shots with a man advantage. But their luck ran out and North Delta claimed a 2-1 victory.

The win bumped North Delta to second place in the conference behind Richmond, with Grandview a close third.

The Wolf Pack have just four games remaining after Wednesday's game against Port Moody, and their last home game is Saturday, Feb. 14 at Brennan Park Arena at 7:15 p.m. The team is hosting the Port Moody Black Panthers, one of the few teams the Wolf Pack have a winning record against this season.
