Boutique Hotels leaves Nita Lake Lodge

Lodge remains open, new management company in place soon

Boutique Hotels and Resorts of British Columbia will cease its management of Whistler’s Nita Lake Lodge by the end of the month, its president confirmed last week.

A “difference of opinion on operation” has led to the decision not to manage the hotel that the company helped open just over a year ago, president Mike Duggan confirmed in an interview on Wednesday morning.

“We think that the best solution for us is to cease management of the hotel,” Duggan said.

Prior to this decision, Boutique Hotels and Resorts managed the property on behalf of the Nita Lake Lodge Management Company. In an e-mail sent March 10, Duggan said that a “continued deterioration” of the relationship between Boutique Hotels, the lodge owners and a “self-appointed receiver” have driven the decision.

Duggan wouldn’t identify who that receiver is, but he stressed that the lodge is not in receivership.

“Nita Lake Lodge management company is still working with a separate company,” he said.

Reports are that a company called Integrated Hospitality Management will take over management of the Nita Lake Lodge next month.

The Nita Lake Lodge opened in January of 2008. Located on the shores of Nita Lake in the Whistler Creek area, it advertises itself as Whistler’s “finest and most exclusive” boutique hotel. Hotel amenities include Jordan’s Crossing Restaurant and Lounge and the Whistler Train Station.
