The Whistler Gymnastics Club attended its final meet of the season last weekend, the annual Ogopogo Invitational in Kelowna. Although it's generally a fun meet for Whistler, a chance for gymnasts to try out new moves and routines, the meet attracts the best competitors from the Lower Mainland and Interior regions, as well as clubs from as far away as Alberta.

This year Whistler's KIP (Kids In Progress) athletes put together routines so they could compete at the youngest Provincial Level 1 category. It was the first time that many of the athletes have been ranked by judges. Gabby Flynn placed sixth on vault out of 31 athletes while Nikki Marriott placed ninth on the floor.

Other competitors were Claire Askey, Charlie Jarratt, Cassia Jean, Rory Ross-Kelly and Leah Brownlie. Hannah Peatfield, who has already competed as a Level 1, placed seventh on vault, 11 th on bars and 10 th all around.

In Level 1 Argo, Cayleigh Lamont placed eighth on vault out of 29 competitors.

In Level 1 Tyro, Jamie Gormley placed 11 th all around with a fifth place result on vault and a ninth place finish on beam. Kalea Ranger was ninth on floor.

The Level 2 gymnasts had another strong meet. In Level 2 Tyro Carly Mann placed first on vault and fourth on beam to place fourth all around out of 36 athletes. Cambria Willis was ninth on bars and Jessie Budge third on vault. Christina Saldat and Charlotte Mahoney did not crack the top-10 ribbons, but had their best results on beam and floor respectively.

In Level 2 Tyro, Keeley Wentzel placed sixth on vault and fourth on bars, beam and floor to place fourth all around. Ali Marriott tied Keeley on the vault.

In Level 2 Open Lenka Prochazka was fourth on vault and seventh on bars to place ninth all around. Jasmin Budge was fourth on beam and fifth on vault and placed 11 th all around. Meg Halliwell won a silver medal on the beam and Desirae Smith was eighth on floor. Tyece Fairweather only competed in three of four events with an ankle injury.

Whistler's Level 3 gymnasts had a solid day against a provincial-calibre field. Rebecca Flynn placed fourth on floor, sixth on vault and beam and seventh on bars to finish sixth all around. Nicola Halliwell was ninth on vault and beam.

Next up for the Whistler Gymnastics Club is B.C. Gymnaestrada, a performance gymnastics event that includes exhibitions and workshops.

Last but not least, the Whistler Gymnastics Club is hosting its annual year-end show on June 7. There will be two shows this year to accommodate parents at the Spring Creek gym, with the first show from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the second show from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The theme this year is "Musicals" and the event will feature performances from the club's youngest gymnasts, 18 months old, to displays by the top competitive gymnasts. Special events include a demonstration by the club's trampoline program, medal winning competitive routines, and a performance by the club's dads.
