Valley trail connections on the way

This summer the Resort Municipality of Whistler is taking steps to close a few of the remaining gaps in the Valley Trail network, while doing some much-needed maintenance on sections that are more than 20 years old.

The Valley Trail from the bottom of Lorimer Road to Rainbow Park is open intermittently as a gravel trail, but it is expected to be repaved and permanently reopened on June 27.

The trail between Rainbow and Whistler Secondary School was completed on June 15 and new sections are being developed north of Alpine - crossing 19 Mile Creek - and south of Spring Creek to connect with the Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood. The latter includes $375,000 in federal and provincial funding from Towns for Tomorrow, also linking to the Sea to Sky Trail.

Also new this year is a connector between the Riverside campground and Spruce Grove, which is expected to be complete by fall of 2009.
