The Phat Wednesday Downhill Series continued on Canada Day, with a double black diamond technical ride down Schleyer, the Canadian Open course, Detroit Rock, and lower Clown Shoes.

While there was a smaller turnout than the previous week's rainy assault on B-Line, 103 riders still turned out to the test.

Former national champion Tyler Morland took first place out of 83 men, with a gap of almost four seconds over Kenny Smith. Eliot Jackson was third, and Paul Stevens, Amado Stachenfeld, Martin Yann, Harry Armstrong, Joseph Taylor, Adam Mantle and Mark Clemens rounded out the top 10.

Jen Ashton was the top female, edging out Katie Holden by a little over a second. Carrie Metzler was third, with Kari Mancer and Jessica Vogt in the top five.

Max Horner won the junior race by close to seven seconds, trailed by Frederico De Corto Vieira, Thomas Zonneveld, Justin Johnson and Graeme Tod-Tims.

In Master 30-plus, Joel Robinson was first, followed by Ben Ferguson, Bart Brown, Alan Gorlds and Mark Wood.

In the prize draw Mark Clemmens and Matt King won Sram drive trains, Paul Stevens won the Giro full face helmet, Eliot Jackson won the Hayes brakes, Shane Gaetan won the Fox hydration pack and Stuart Wood won a Decline Magazine subscription. Other prizes were given away by Race Face, Odi, WTB, Garbanzo Bike and Bean, the GLC, Fox, Giro, Hayes and Kokanee.

The third race took place on July 8, leaving six remaining Phat Wednesday events on the calendar - July 15, July 22, July 29, Aug. 19, Aug. 26 and Sept. 2.

To take part you must be a member of WORCA and have a valid lift pass, with discounted passes available to racers. Registration gets underway at 5 p.m. at Garbanzo Bike and Bean, and races start at 6 p.m. The cost is $2, with the prize money going to the top riders in each category. All participants are eligible to win draw prizes, and to enjoy free post-race refreshments at the GLC.
