Starting this Friday, Aug. 29, a portion of the Valley Trail stretching from the north end of Lorimer Road to Rainbow Park will be closed on-and-off for paving, the municipality announced.

The trail will be closed on Aug. 29 and from Monday, Aug. 31 to Friday Sept. 4. It will be open for the long weekend.

The construction work marks one of the final step in the local government's project to install a pipeline along Lorimer Road.

The Lorimer Road pipeline is one of four major upgrades to Whistler's water system. It consists of a new large diameter distribution main that connects the current 21 Mile Creek surface water source to a newly established groundwater source in Rainbow Park and the Whistler Village.

"This project is head of schedule and the paving of this section wraps up work on this portion of the trail," said Ron Sander, manager of operations for the municipality. "We try to make the Valley Trail as accessible as possible and are working toward our vision to connect all neighbourhoods in Whistler."
