Whistler activist Sara Jennings announced her plans this week to protest next February during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

The member of Whistler Watch said the protest will be part of her ongoing efforts to raise awareness around Olympic issues.

She doesn't have any concrete plans for the protest, although she plans to be outside the Vancouver Integrated Security Unit's free speech zones, which are officially known as Safe Assembly Areas.

"It will likely take the form of doing what I normally do, which is holding a banner or that sort of lawful protest, outside of those so-called Designated Free Speech Zones, which we have been told we will be having in Whistler," said Jennings.

According to the Integrated Security Unit's website, lawful protests can occur anywhere they are not a police concern.

Where possible, the website reads, security planners will identify visible areas where people may choose to lawfully express their views in safe locations close to Olympic venues. Persons do not have to use these designated areas.
