What BEYOND THE BLUES Whistler Mental Health and Addictions Services hosts a Depression Anxiety Education and Screening Day. Come out and learn about depression and anxiety by hearing about peopel's experiences with both conditions, treatments and how you can help.

When: Thursday October 8, 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

What: CITIZENS ON PATROL INFORMATION MEETING Vandals are on the lam in Pemberton and the RCMP can't be everywhere at once. The Village of Pemberton and the RCMP thus need the community's help to act as eyes and ears within the community. 15 participants minimum needed for project to proceed.

When: Thursday October 8, 7 p.m.

What: GIANT USED BOOK SALE Donations are now being sought for the Giant Used Book Sale, which welcomes all manner of book, whether fiction, non-fiction, adult, children's, soft and hardcover. Donation boxes located at Nesters Market, Canada Trust, Whistler Public Library and Spring Creek Community School. Call Jane at (604) 932-3665.

What: POTATO COOKING EVENT Join bestselling author Elizabeth Blakely Toews for a potato cooking event, as Canada's "potato lady" recounts tater tales and cooks up some trendy "potato nachos," a recipe from her book "The Original Incredible Potato - A Cookbook and History" now available in Whistler supermarkets.

When: Saturday October 10, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

What: BANNOCK BAKERS WORKSHOP You've all tried it when visiting the Squamish-Lil'wat Cultural Centre, why not learn how to bake it? The Whistler Food Bank presents a family-focused afternoon where visitors are taught how to bake the fried bread that's such a popular food among First Nations. Bring a non-perishable food item.

When: Sunday October 11, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

What: DIAMOND AND PEARLS GALA Sea to Sky Community Services Society presents the second annual Diamond and Pearls Gala, after last year's event celebrated the Society's 30th anniversary. There'll be a full course meal and appetizers, ticket includes dancing, silent auction, door prizes and complimentary wine. Tickets $100, tables of eight are $700.

When: Saturday October 17, 5:30 p.m. - 1 a.m.

What: SOUNDS OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM Renowned musician David Hickey presents "Sounds of the Solar System," a concert with a crystal bowl and a planet gong. He'll perform a unique blend of music, all with acoustic instrumentation. You sit and listen, or even practice yoga along to his sounds.

When: Sunday October 18, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

What: SUNDAY SEA TO SKY WINTER MARKET The Winter Market returns to the Istken Hall at the Squamish-Lil'wat Cultural Centre and will run through to Christmas. People are invited to come check out fresh harvest vegetables, baked goods and works by Whistler artisans.
