The eighth annual Welcome Week for newcomers to Whistler kicks off Monday morning at 10 a.m. with the Millennium Rotary Club's $3 pancake breakfast at the main fire hall.
Organized by Whistler Community Services Society, the Nov. 16-20 Welcome Week also includes free yoga at the conference centre from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, and a ski/snowboard movie premier at Rainbow Theatre at 6:30. Tickets to the film are $3.
On Tuesday, a team scavenger hunt through the village takes place, followed by a barbecue. The scavenger hunt starts at WB House at 3:30 and costs $3.
On Wednesday, Nov. 18 the Jill Ackhurst Community Welcome Dinner takes place at the conference centre. For $3 newcomers will be treated to a slow-food menu prepared by top Whistler chefs. A couple of long-term residents will be at each table to answer questions and share information about Whistler. The dinner always sells out so get your tickets early from the Visitors Centre, the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, Sammy's Snacks at the Glacier Staff Housing or the WCSS office at Spruce Grove.
On Nov. 19, the WCSS is hosting a Rent-It-Right workshop that will include speakers from the Residential Tenancy Branch, the B.C. Apartment Owners and Managers Association, the Tenant Resource Advisory Resource and the Whistler Housing Authority discussing the laws and bylaws regulating tenancy in Whistler. Take home brochures will also be available.
The workshop will take place at the Telus Whistler Conference Centre from 5:30 to 7 p.m. as part of Welcome Week. The first half hour will be focused on tenants and the second half on landlords, with snacks at intermission.
On Friday at Meadow Park Sports Centre LUNA will host the Moist Pool Party from 9 p.m. to midnight. And on Saturday, Nov. 21 the Meadow Park Sports Centre is hosting a Community Life Open House, with all facilities free all day. At WB House, the Zero Ceiling Society will be hosting a $5 chili and drink sale, with proceeds going to the non-profit society.
