Whistler’s Ziptrek looking at Games time zipline

No details on the proposal for Robson Square

Whistler's Ziptrek Ecotours could be making a big name for itself high above Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Games.

Ziptrek's owners confirmed this week that talks are underway with the province to build a temporary zipline in the heart of the city.

But further details are not forthcoming at this point.

B.C.'s 2010 Winter Games Secretariat would not comment on the project.

The plans include a zip-line installed near Robson Square.

That will be the home of the International Media Centre for the unaccredited media from Jan. 28 to Feb. 28, 2010. Thousands of media will gather at the centre as B.C. showcases its athletes, artisans, performers and unique businesses.

It's a prime location, with General Electric sinking $1.6 million into the area to restore the outdoor ice rink in time for the Games.

A Ziptrek zipline would be a one of a kind marketing opportunity for the Whistler company that has become one of the top adventure activities in the resort.
