Businesses challenged in 2010 decorating contest

Attention all Whistler businesses: get those creative decorating juices flowing this season.

Attention all Whistler businesses: get those creative decorating juices flowing this season.

The Whistler Chamber of Commerce has launched the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic decorating contest as Whistler prepares to welcome the world to town in less than two months.

The contest extends to all chamber members in the resort, who are encouraged to dress windows, lobbies and/or reception areas in an Olympic and Paralympic theme.

That could mean displaying sports equipment, the red and white Canadian colours, 2010 merchandise, photos and TVs or something even more extraordinary. But the decorating must follow the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee's (VANOC) business decorating guidelines.

The registration deadline for the Olympic contest is on Jan. 11, with judging taking place on Jan. 19 from 2 to 7 p.m. The display will remain in place until Feb. 28.

The registration deadline for the Paralympic contest is on March 4, with judging taking place on March 9. The display will remain in place until March 21.

Among the prizes to be won are a plasma TV, sport event tickets, HBC gift cards and more.

There is no charge to enter the contest.
