People looking to squeeze in a swim, skate or workout during the 2010 Games can still find parking at Meadow Park Sports Centre, but this week the Resort Municipality of Whistler imposed a three-hour limit on the lot to prevent people from using it as a park and ride facility.
"We will be managing the parking lot so the community is able to use it during the Games," said Roger Weetman, manager of recreation services for the municipality. "Meadow Park Sports Centre will be fully open for public use during the entire 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
Regular hours will be in effect, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. All of the facilities are open including the arena, pool, squash courts and fitness rooms.
But while the parking lot will be open, given the volume of cars and buses on the road it will likely still be easier to take public transit. There will be five times more buses on the road during the Games and additional routes within Whistler operating 24 hours a day. Bus frequency ranges from seven minutes on most routes to a late night schedule where buses may only come every 15 minutes.
