Two arrested in village punch-up

The RCMP received a report at 2:15 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 14 that seven males were engaged in a fight on Northlands Boulevard.

The RCMP received a report at 2:15 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 14 that seven males were engaged in a fight on Northlands Boulevard.

The police attended the scene and immediately detained two men who were running from the area towards an underground parking lot. According to the RCMP they showed signs of being in a fight as their clothes were stretched out. They admitted to being involved but said they were trying to stop the fight.

The RCMP rounded up four other suspects. Eventually they released four of the six individuals after determining that the fight was consensual and that none of the parties wanted to see charges laid. No one was seriously injured.

The RCMP did arrest two individuals for being drunk in public, lodging them for the evening and then issuing fines in the morning when they were released. Both arrested males were from Quebec.

Nightclub brawler uses a glass as a weapon

RCMP arrested a 21-year-old male from Seattle after he allegedly used his glass as a weapon in a Whistler nightclub at 12:20 a.m. on Jan. 18. Three officers attended and spoke to the victim, who was not injured, as well as took statements from other witnesses.

The male was later released on a promise to appear and attend court in Canada. If he does not attend court then a warrant will be issued for his arrest.

Fine levied for not having insurance

At 11:15 p.m. on Jan. 14 the Whistler RCMP stopped a vehicle after it fishtailed in the snow turning onto Lorimer Road from the highway. They discovered that the licence and insurance for the vehicle had expired. The insurance decal on the vehicle may have been stolen.

Whistler towing took the vehicle and the male was issued a $598 fine for not having insurance.

The RCMP decided to follow through with the fine rather than court as theft of the decal would be difficult to prove.

Impaired drivers continue to be caught

Some people are clearly not getting the message, as another week resulted in another round of impaired driving charges handed down by the Whistler RCMP.

At 2:27 a.m. on Jan. 18 a routine traffic stop resulted in a 29-year-old Whistler resident receiving a roadside breathalyzer test, which he failed. As a result he was taken to the Whistler RCMP detachment where he blew samples of .140 and .130 milligrams, well above the legal limit of .08.

The following night, at 12:53 a.m. on Jan. 12, the police observed a vehicle make an illegal left turn from the right lane at an intersection and pulled over the driver. A 24 year old from Vanderhoof also failed his test and blew samples of .140 and .130.
