Whistlerites: Show Your Spirit

Don't be the only one not sporting the Canadian colours as the Olympic flame comes to town. On Friday, Feb. 5 the torch will be in Whistler so fly the flag, wear red, paint your face and make some noise to kick off the Paint the Town Red Campaign.

Don't be the only one not sporting the Canadian colours as the Olympic flame comes to town.

On Friday, Feb. 5 the torch will be in Whistler so fly the flag, wear red, paint your face and make some noise to kick off the Paint the Town Red Campaign.

In addition to seeing the torch run through Whistler, community members can head to Village Square from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. where Barney Bentall and the Grand Cariboo Opry will take the stage for a 90-minute concert. Four local musicians, Dana-Marie Battaglia, Greg Reamsbottom, Jon Shrier and Rachel Thom will also be part of the performance.

The Olympic mascots will be showing off their dance moves and kids can get their faces painted in the Spirit tent.

From 5:45 to 8 p.m. the festivities will move to Skier's Plaza where the Squamish Nation Eagle Song Dancers will perform, as will Ali Milner, the Whistler Children's Choir and the Whistler Singers. Community torchbearer Tyler Allison will light the torch just before 7 p.m.
