The American Friends of Whistler (AFOW) has donated $9,000 to the Whistler Community Services Society to help fund two programs for the sixth year in a row.
"We continue to be impressed with the professionalism of WCSS as an organization and their continued focus on the basic needs of Whistler residents," AFOW President Rod Rohda said in a statement.
The WCSS Food Bank received $5,000 and the Support Network of Whistler (S.N.O.W.) $4,000 to help fund the programs. In the past eight months the food bank served over 820 people including 153 children. S.N.O.W., meanwhile, is a program meant to enhance life skills and support single-parent families as well as individuals interested in improving their life skills.
S.N.O.W. participants get life coaching, attend information sessions with financial planners and can purchase bulk food at cost through the Food Buying Club.
"American Friends of Whistler are continuing and caring supporters of Whistler Community Services programs and funders who genuinely care about the community," WCSS Administrator Lorna Van Straaten said in a news release. "They continue to contribute to a better quality of life for Whistlerites in need."
