Richoz, McHale earn Community Achievement Awards

Former head librarian recognized for building arts and culture in Whistler

 

Whistler's Joan Richoz and Larry McHale of Squamish were among 45 British Columbians selected for the seventh annual B.C. Community Achievement Awards, presented by Premier Gordon Campbell and the B.C. Achievement Foundation.

Richoz was recognized for her work helping to build arts and culture in Whistler, as a member of the Whistler Arts Council since 1983. She has been part of WAC initiatives like the Performance Series, the Children's Art Festival and Bizarre Bazaar. As well, as the former head librarian for the community, Richoz played an instrumental role in the construction of the new Whistler Public Library.

Larry McHale was recognized for his achievements working for the District of West Vancouver as the supervisor of forestry and trails, as well as his environmental stewardship and efforts to manage black bears.
