You have until midnight on Saturday, May 22 to register for the Whistler Triathlon Club's Kids of Steel race and the Adult Try a Tri, both taking place the following Saturday, May 29 at Meadow Park.

The price is $40 for youth and $40 for adults, not including the price of insurance from Triathlon B.C., which is sanctioning both events. Registration for the events is online only this year at www.whistlertriclub.ca.

The kids group is broken into three age groups. Kids 8 to 11 swim 100 metres in the pool, bike 2 km and then run 1 km; kids 12 to 15 swim 300 metres, bike 10 km and run 3 km; and kids 16 to 18 swim 500 metres, bike 14 km and run 4 km. Course maps are available on the website.

Body marking and package pickup is available from 6:45 a.m. on Saturday and all athletes must have finished in the transition area by 7:45 a.m. All racers must be at the pool by 8 a.m. for an 8:15 a.m. start.

The fourth annual Whistler Try a Tri starts at 9 a.m., and includes a 300-metre swim, a 14-km bike and a 4-km run. The price is $50 plus $15 for race day insurance if you're not a Triathlon B.C. member. It's also limited to 60 participants, so you might not want to wait until midnight on Saturday to make up your mind.

The event is open to athletes 19 and over, and age groups are divided into five-year intervals (19 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, etc.).

The awards for both events take place at 11:30 a.m. by the finish line.

Whistler Valley Trail Run on May 30

While the mound that is Lost Lake Park seems on the small side when compared to local peaks, it's not exactly flat either. The Whistler Valley Trail Run takes place on a selection of rolling roads and trails through the park, starting and finishing at Spruce Grove Park.

There are both 5 km and 10 km race courses. The 5 km group heads up Lower Panorama, through Helen's Corner and Molly Holgan, returning to the park along Old Mill Road. The 10 km group continues up Lower Panorama to the north end of Old Mill Road, up Tommy Moore to Molly Hogan and back to Spruce Grove on a mix of trails including the Lost Lake Loop, Vimy Ridge and Tin Pants.

All levels of runners and walkers are welcome to take part, with the proceeds going towards the Youth Community Foundation of Whistler. Last year the run donated $3,500 with more than 160 runners taking part.

Online registration is available at www.whistlervalleytrailrun.org, although you can register on Saturday, May 28 at the Salomon Store from noon to 4 p.m. and on race day, May 29, from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Spruce Grove. The race gets underway at 9 a.m.
