Participants in the annual Squamish Test of Metal will get a highland send-off on Saturday, June 19 as organizers have managed to partner with the Black Tusk Caledonia Pipe Band - which is hosting over 200 bagpipers on the Test of Medal weekend for the B.C. Legion Annual Highland Gathering.

The pipers will open the Test of Metal, which gets underway at 11 a.m. at Brennan Park Leisure Centre.

The rest of the Test of Metal calendar is also shaping up as well, including the Test of Metal pre-party on Cleveland Avenue on Friday evening, the Mini-Metal at Station Square Mall on Sunday morning and the Rockstar Invitational Downhill on Sunday afternoon.

The pre-party gets underway at 3:30 p.m. with the Republic Bike Show'n'Shine Slow Ride from the shop in Brackendale to downtown Squamish. At 6 p.m. are the Funny Racers, where teams of four ride a funny bike into the book store. At 6:30 p.m. it's Bike Poker, where participants ride to various dealers in town to get cards, with the best hand winning.

Ongoing events include the Cheesy Olympics cheese roll, bike and obstacle course for kids and adults, the Best In Town bike competition with side contests, the Kids Zone with bouncy castles and a mini trials area, and live music from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the mainstage.

The Howe Sound Brew Pub will also host a post-Test party on Saturday evening with live music from Brand New Waves and D.J. Evolve.
