What: WHISTLER PUBLIC LIBRARY BIRTHDAY The Whistler Public Library celebrates its birthday this week. Not a major one, but a cause for celebration nonetheless. There will be cake and a chance for people to appreciate a centre of intellectualism in Whistler.

When: Friday August 20, 3 p.m.

Where: Whistler Public Library

 

What: MEC 5 PEAKS TRAIL RUNNING SERIES Whistler Blackcomb hosts a running series that traverses the country. Participants will race atop Whistler Mountain, starting and finishing in the upper alpine region. There will be steep climbs, sharp descents and craggy wilderness trails. $10 gets you a gondola ride up to the start of the race.

What: IN-SHUCK-CH DAYS The In-SHUCK-ch Nation hosts In-SHUCK-ch Days, a festival to celebrate In-SHUCK-ch culture and accomplishments. What: K9 WINE AND DINE FUNDRAISER WAG presents its main event of the year, a fundraiser for lost and abandoned animals. Owners share a fine dining experience with their dogs. They enjoy a gourmet three-course meal accompanied by vintage "Pinot Growlio," all courtesy of the Hilton's executive chef.

What: SQUAMISH PADDLING CLUB TOONIE RACE Paddle into the Squamish Estuary and then back out around Squamish Terminals, then around the southernmost navigational barrel and southeast to Darrell Bay and back. Fee is $2. Go to www.squamishpaddlingclub.com for more information.

Where: Starts at Nexen Beach, aka Squamish Oceanfront

 

What: RBC GRANFONDO WHISTLER Royal Bank of Canada presents GranFondo, a race that will see cyclists ride all the way from Vancouver to Whistler, a grueling uphill trip along the Sea to Sky Highway. You'll climb 2,400 metres, enjoying views all the way. Go to www.rbcgranfondowhistler.com for more.
